Review title of AndrewLots of potential, but a major flaw makes it unusable.
This app is well done and has lots of potential to be the best simple photo app available for Windows. However, I see one very major problem which might force me to discontinue using this app (unfortunately). It seems that the problem was brought up and responded to even 2 years ago, but issue seems to still be there. The problem is that sometimes, the app may simply not load (to session) all images available in the current folder.Example:: I double click on an image opening this app, then navigate through the list of images, however, many images may be missing from that list (which I've never seen happen with any other image viewer app).Based on what I read in the reviews, it may be an issue with 'indexed content'?I don't know how long I'll need to wait to be able to see all images as should be expected. This is a major issue with using this app, and something that should be resolved.Wish you best of luck, and I hope you'll be able to resolve this.
Hi Andrew,This does sound like an issue with the Windows indexer. Sometimes the Windows file indexer stops working properly, especially after a major Windows update. In that case when you launch an app with a file, the neighboring file list is not correctly provided to the app. First check that this is indeed the problem. Try opening the file in the same way with the built-in Photos app. If the same problem occurs, then it's likely this is the problem. If not then please get back to me.This can usually be fixed by rebuilding the file index. One way to do this is as follows. Right click on your drive letter (e.g. C:) in File Explorer, and uncheck the box at the bottom labelled 'Allow files to have their contents indexed...', click 'Apply', wait for it to finish, then check the box, click 'Apply' again and wait for it to finish. Note that this can take several hours (each time you click 'Apply') depending on your hard drive and number of files on it.
If I understand you correctly, you don't see videos when playing a game.
It's been a long time since I've played games on a PC, but it's my understanding that the game displays videos itself, without involving any other file viewer. At least, that's how it used to work.
I suggest that you ask for help in a game-related forum.
See, for example, this thread that reports what seems to be the same problem you have with some possible solutions: https://steamcommunity.com/app/34820/discussions/0/1692669912402343495/
Compare, however, this one:
If you're trying to view the videos apart from running the game and Windows Photo Viewer opens with an error, the problem is that for some reason, Windows Photo Viewer sometimes seems to get set as the default program for various video file types. However, as far as I know, WPV only supports still images, not videos, and specifically supports BMP, JPEG, JPEG XR, PNG, ICO, GIF and TIFF files.
What file type are the videos? If you're not sure, right-click one and select Properties.
The usual Windows 7 default for playing videos is Windows Media Player, but that sometimes also runs into difficulties. Although IrfanView can display some video file formats, it really is more of an image viewer rather than a photo viewer.
First see if you can play the videos this way:
right-click and select Open with > Windows Media Player
if WMP isn't in the list of options when you select 'Open with' use 'Open with > Choose default program'
in the 'Open With window, select WMP and make sure that the box at the bottom left is checked to 'Always use the selected program to open this kind of file.'
If you run into problems with Windows Media Player, you should be able to play them using free VLC media player: https://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.html
With respect to the 'found corrupt files but could not replace them' issue (which is probably not related to your video problem), go here: https://www.sysnative.com/forums/windows-update/ Read and follow the 'posting instructions.'
